Team England breaks into World’s Top 20

Team England took part in the Danone Nations Cup World Finals in Morocco against stiff competition.
Twelve 11 year old boys from Leeds have been ranked 19th in the world following the World Finals of the Danone Nations Cup.
Leeds Schools’ FA U11’s team won the Inter-District leg of the ESFA Danone Nations Cup U11’s tournament earlier this year, meaning that they got the chance to represent England and play in the Danone Nations Cup World Finals in Morocco.
At the World Finals, England faced previous winners Mexico, Egypt and Portugal, one of the toughest groups at the finals. Team England finished third in the group behind a dominant Mexico who were eventual finalists. (MEXICO 1 v 0 ENG, ENG 2 v 2 EGYPT, ENG 0 v 2 PORTUGAL)
In the knockout stages, Team England’s talent shone through and they recorded three wins out of four to place 19th in the World. (ENG 1 v 0 UAE, ENG 1 v 0 ROMANIA, ENG 0 v 2 TUNISIA, ENG 2 v 0 CHINA)
Josh Stones, captain of Team England said: “I am so proud of the team, we have come a long way since the start of the competition in September last year. To make it to Morocco and represent England was a dream come true and I am so happy that the team placed 19th in the World and that we made friends from across the globe!”
Former Tottenham, Liverpool and England centre back John Scales, ambassador of the ESFA Danone Nations Cup said: “I’m so proud of what the team achieved, after a tough first day the team showed enormous spirit, skill & passion. Congratulations to the team.”
